The first full moon of the lunar year, i.e. the fifteenth and final day of Chinese New Year festivities, has traditionally been celebrated as the Lantern Festival. Starting this week, festivals of light are kicking off across Taiwan, so go out with your loved ones and celebrate!
The Kaohsiung Lantern Festival runs from Jan. 27 to Feb. 6, illuminating three locations: Cishan, Gangshan and Love River. Highlights include fireworks, eco-friendly water lanterns, waterfront galleries, and the distribution of “prosperous hat-lanterns.”
The Fo Guang Shan New Year Festival of Light and Peace runs from Jan. 23 to Feb. 21. Visitors to the Buddhist compound in Kaohsiung can offer incense, lights, and enjoy the sramanera lanterns illuminated all over the grounds. Shuttle buses run between these locations until Feb. 6.
