Best tablet 2013

iPad mini

Apple's former CEO Steve Jobs famously slammed small tablets a few years back, leading many to believe the Cupertino-based firm would never dabble in the budget end of the market, but here we are.
In terms of consistency in the tablet market Apple cannot be matched, as it now lays claim to two of the top four places in our top 10, with the iPad mini the jewel in an already glistening crown.
The slight downsides to the iPad mini are that it misses out on a Retina display and it pushes the upper end of the budget price bracket, but you can justify that price with its slick operation and premium build quality, letting you know you have a top piece of kit in your hand.

Google Nexus 7

With a quad-core processor, beefy 12-core GPU and the first device to run Android Jelly Bean, the Google Nexus 7 certainly packs a punch.
The 7-inch HD IPS display means you can easily hold the Nexus 7 in one hand, making it a perfect reading device, as well as a great portable entertainment machine.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1

What's better than a tablet with a big screen? A tablet with a big screen, a quad core processor and the might of the S Pen... known as a stylus to me and you.
Well, not just a stylus - with many levels of pressure sensitivity and the ability easily sketch and annotate on a wide range of items, the Galaxy Note 10.1 offers so much more than your average tablet.

Asus FonePad

It may be almost identical to the Nexus 7 when in comes to looks, but the FonePad has a few trump cards including a great price, microSD slot and 3G connectivity which not only allows you to get online but also send/receive phone calls and text messages.

Vocabulary learning
Memrise is one of the most versatile sites for providing pre-made mnemonics for vocabulary in a wide range of languages, which is always expanding since the system is open to people adding their own public vocabulary lists and suggestions in.

Ankiweb - while this works best as a smartphone app or program, there is also an online version you can use, and you can input pre-made decks of the most important words in that language from a huge database.

Quizlet is another flashcard based site with lots of language specific ones.
Get it pronounced
Forvo is a great site if you come across a new word and would really like to hear how it’s pronounced by a native speaker. It has a huge database covering many languages that you can search and get an instant answer.

Rhinospike is better to hear how an entire sentence or even a couple of short paragraphs are pronounced by a native speaker. Submit your request and make sure to help fill those requests in your native language to have yours prioritized.

Lang 8 is a site where you can write text in a particular language, and pretty soon have natives look over it and give you great feedback. Highly recommended for improving your writing skills!

Apple Siri vs. Google Jelly Bean

One of the big enhancements in the Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) operating system update that Google announced on June 27 is improved voice recognition in search. You can now ask your Android phone questions in a natural way--meaning you no longer have to sound like a robot to get answers. We wondered which service is better at answering questions: Android's Voice Search or Apple's much-touted Siri. To test the services, we assembled a list of 17 questions or commands, and asked them of a Galaxy Nexus running Jelly Bean and an iPhone 4S running iOS 5.

Online Games

Japanese young people like to play mobile-based/web-based games such as
GREE, Mobage.
Though above sites are written in Japanese, it might help to get some ideas what's going on there. They are online games with multi-players.People create an account, log in and play together with other players, whether they are friends or unknowns.
GREE  and mobage run by DeNA  are two big web- & mobile-based game providing companies.  Both companies are growing rapidly, and DeNA  bought a professional baseball team last fall.  I wonder if it is popular to play mobile-based games using mobile phones in other countries.

Reverse Macro Shot

Reverse rings can be used to shoot macro shot using non-macro lens like 50mm.Therefore, it need original reverse ring, the price is ranging from 30~40 US$.

There are some instruments, that are really essential for example:
1. Old Camera Body Cap.
2.  Unused filer
3. Some Quick setting glue (Super Glue).
4. Some Epoxy Glue.

And here are the step by step instructions given a famous photographer who wrote about how to build a reverse macro lens.
1. Cut the body cap in middle. Through dotted line.

2. Open the filter to take the glass out. Use lens opener if you have, as for me, I simply break the glass. Be careful as it may cut your finger.
3. Put the Body cap and Filter Ring together, should not be face each other on Lens Thread and Body Mounting notch.
4. First Align each ring carefully and set the position using small amount of super glue.
5. Wait and see how it was align. (In that stage you can re-align the position if you do not like the alignment, that’s why only use small amount of superglue).
6. Then, if you are satisfy with alignment, please fill some more superglue along the seam. Wait until the glue completely dry. Super glue normally dried in few minutes may be less than 5 min.
7. Then fill the internal seam with Epoxy glue. Epoxy glue comes with to compound "Resin" and "Hardener" mostly indicated as "A" and "B". you have to mix those 2 in equal ratio, and apply over seam inside the ring.
8. And leave it for at least 45 min before use. As for me, I leave it for over night.
9. Finally you can fit this between camera and lens.

Fly with the Jetman

Rossy developed and built a system comprising a back pack with semi-rigid aeroplane-type carbon-fiber wings with a span of about 2.4 metres (7.9 ft), powered by four attached Jet-Cat P200 jet engines  modified from large-model, kerosene fueled, aircraft engines. His first flight occurred in November 2006 in Bex, lasting nearly six minutes and nine seconds.

On 5 November 2010, he flew a new version of his jet-powered flight system and successfully performed 2 aerial loops before landing via parachute. He launched from a hot air balloon piloted by Brian Jones at 2,400 meters (7,900 feet) and flew a total of 18 minutes before landing. The wingspan of Rossy's latest craft has been reduced to 2m.

Apple iPad 2: Review

The good: Apple's iPad 2 is dramatically thinner and boasts front and rear cameras, FaceTime video chat, a faster processor, and 3G options for both AT&T and Verizon.

The bad: The iPad's screen resolution hasn't budged, photo quality is mediocre, there's still no Adobe Flash support, and ports for HDMI, USB, and SD all require adapters.

The bottom line: The iPad 2 refines an already excellent product. Its easy-to-use interface, vast app catalog, and marathon battery life bolster Apple's claim to being the king of tablets.

5 things you didn’t know about Steve Jobs

Early life and childhood
Jobs was born in San Francisco on February 24, 1955. He was adopted shortly after his birth by a couple named Clara and Paul Jobs. His birth mother, Joanne Simpson, was a graduate student at the time and later a speech pathologist; his biological father, Abdulfattah John Jandali, was a Syrian Muslim who left the country at age 18 and reportedly now serves as the vice president of a Reno, Nevada casino.
College dropout
After graduating from high school in Cupertino, California, Jobs enrolled in Reed College in 1972. Jobs stayed at Reed for only one semester, dropping out quickly due to the financial burden.
The wife he leaves behind
Like the rest of his family life, Jobs kept his marriage out of the public eye. Jobs was raising a family with his wife, Laurene, an entrepreneur who attended the University of Pennsylvania's prestigious Wharton business school and later received her MBA at Stanford, where she first met her future husband.
His sister is a famous author
His sister, Mona Simpson (born Mona Jandali), is the well-known author of Anywhere But Here — a story about a mother and daughter that was later adapted into a film starring Natalie Portman and Susan Sarandon.
His first daughter
When he was 23, Jobs and his high school girlfriend Chris Ann Brennan conceived a daughter, Lisa Brennan Jobs. She was born in 1978, just as Apple began picking up steam in the tech world. He and Brennan never married, and Jobs reportedly denied paternity for some time, going as far as stating that he was sterile in court documents. He went on to father three more children with Laurene Powell. After later mending their relationship, Jobs paid for his first daughter's education at Harvard. She graduated in 2000 and now works as a magazine writer.

Robot Rides Bicycle

PRIMER-V2 is the name of a robot and his custom bike. The robot pedals with his feet at variable speed. The steering is done by the robot hands as with a normal bike, and remote controlled by a human.
Stability is achieved by relying on the inertial centrifugal effect of the front wheel and on a gyro aided by a PID controller that takes over steering when driving in a straight line. Seems like when the robot steers his arms he also bends the waist leaning a bit into the turn. Breaking is achieved by taking the feet off the pedals and pointing them down to the ground using the metal feet as friction breaks.
