102522071 林宥均 Classcraft(A good example to game-based learning)

Hello, i want to introduce a good example to game-based learning.

It’s call “Classcraft”! What’s classcraft?

About Classcraft:

Definition

Classcraft is an approach to teaching by transforming any subject into a role-playing game. It is available as free teaching platform and mobile app.

Description

Classcraft acts like a layer of augmented reality. Classcraft uses a system of real-life rewards and risks. Students divide into teams and choose their "class": stronger kids might pick mages because they have the best powers while social kids tend to go with healers because they’re excellent team players. Good performance in the classroom nets experience points (XP) that students can use to learn abilities like “hunting,” which gives them permission to eat in class, but negative behavior leads to consequences such as less time to finish an exam or even detention. Students have to work together to win.

Benefits

Classcraft Works Because It:

Increases student motivation

through real risks and rewards.

Teaches meaningful collaboration

by placing students in teams and making their success interdependent.

Improves classroom behavior

by gamifiying the classroom experience and making learning fun!

How it works?

Don’t change what you teach, supercharge how you teach it.

Classcraft is a free online, educational role-playing game that teachers and students play together in the classroom. By using many of the conventions traditionally found in games today, students can level up, work in teams, and earn powers that have real-world consequences. Acting as a gamification layer around any existing curriculum, the game transforms the way a class is experienced throughout the school year.

Playing in the ClassroomClassroom
Over the course of an hour, game management occupies roughly five minutes. The Classcraft web-based and iOS platforms enable teachers and students to easily manage all the complexities of the game. The class is taught normally, and the game runs passively in the background, collecting points and managing powers. Classcraft can be played with one computer and a projector or deployed on every student’s tablet or laptop.

Real Risks & Rewards

Classcraft is relevant to students because the risks and rewards in the game are real. Do well academically and help your teammates with their homework, and you can gain experience points that can unlock real powers like eating in class or asking a question on an exam. Show up late too many times, and you might fall in battle and need to come to detention. In Classcraft, participation is a must to survive!

Character Classes

To play Classcraft, each student must choose a character from three different character classes: the Healer, the Mage, or the Warrior. Each has unique properties and powers and is designed for different types of students. These are customizable as the game progresses and can be accompanied by pets.

Teams & Strategies
Classcraft is played in teams of five or six students for the duration of the year. This encourages students who might not normally socialize to work together to win the game. All team members benefit from cooperative efforts and learn to consider the needs of others before they take actions in the game.

Teacher tools
Mac
Classcraft integrates seamlessly into your classroom work flow.
  • Keep assignments and resources organized with interactive forums.
  • Assign students points directly in the forums when they answer questions correctly and help each other out.
  • Give parents a clear view of how their child is participating in your classes with integrated student analytics.

It's pretty cool!!
