Hron and Friedrich2003)認為以電腦做為媒介的合作情境不似學習者熟悉的面對面合作情境,學習者在討論過程中要傳遞給組員的部分資訊將有所遺漏,例如:音調起伏、有意義的手勢等;除此之外有些機制也會或多或少受到影響,例如以眼神示意換誰發言或是人們通常不會打斷他人高談闊論中的談話等,這些在面對面合作情境自然產生的機制,在以電腦做為媒介的溝通情境並不存在。因學習者未能完整傳遞資訊或是受到溝通機制的影響,故在以電腦做為媒介的溝通情境中小組若欲順利合作,勢必需額外花費精神去處理協調問題。
